Which sections to focus on

If you are hard press for time and you need to take the LSAT very soon, the area of the exam that most people are able to increase their score the most on is the games section.  The key to doing well with the game questions is to do as many as possible.  After you do each series of question you need to go over the answer and figure out why you got each question wrong.  After you figure out why you got each question wrong, you need to keep doing as many questions as you can.  If you do enough questions you will find that the question structure and questions start to look the same and repeat themselves.

If you truly understood why you got previous exam questions wrong, you should be able to improve your score drastically on this section of the exam.

The other section to focus on is the Argument section since 50% of the questions are covered in that category of questions.  Going with these suggestions according to the best LSAT Prep Courses should help you out a lot to do well.

Have a plan!

Doing well on the LSAT requires that you have a plan of attack.  You can’t just read articles to increase your reading comprehension score.  You can’t just do tons of practice game questions and hope to do well.  I agree that it is very important to do tons of practice exams but you need to review the test after you take it.  You need to look at the questions that you go wrong and figure out why you got them wrong and see if you can figure out what the right question is and why.

Mark the questions that you guess on so that when you go back and review the exam, you will know which one’s you took a guess on so that you can figure out why you had no clue on that question so that the next time you see something similar you will know what to do or at least have a plan of attack.

Also write down the date when you take each practice test so that you can retake it at a later date after a sufficient of time has passed by.

Learning Vocabulary Words

It’s not really realistic to increase your SAT score through learning vocabulary words if you have less than 12 months to prepare for the exam.  There are thousands of words that you would need to learn and know their definition to increase your score going that route.  There are about 20 vocabulary related questions on the entire test so is it really cost effective for you to memorialize or learn thousands of vocabulary words in a 12 month span.

You can more effectively use your time concentrating on other section of the SAT.  If now, for example, if you are in the sixth grade and are already thinking about taking the SAT then by all means, learn your vocabulary words and increase your reading comprehension skill.

LSAT Scoring

The LSAT is very important because how well you do on it will determine which prestigious law school you will be admitted to.  The LSAT is scored in a range between 120 to 180.  The average score being 150.

There are about 101 questions and you get one raw score point for each question that you answer correct.  Your raw score is then converted into the score range mentioned above.  If you were able to get 99 out of 101 questions right, for example, you would get a score of 180.

To figure out what score you need to get into your desired school, it is best to contact the school.  To give you a general idea of what type of score you need to get into the top law schools in the country, we have put together the following information:

About half the people taking the LSAT score between 145 and 160

Reading Comprehension

A great deal of the LSAT deals with your reading comprehension.  This only make sense as the legal profession is predicated on reading and understanding complex areas of laws, case law, and statutes.  If you aren’t good at reading and understanding what you are reading then you are unlikely going to do well in law school.

The purpose of the LSAT is to isolate the best students at analytic reasoning with good reading comprehension skills.  So it is important to practice on your reading skills.  The reading comprehension portion of the LSAT is not easy.  That portion of the exam covers many different subject matter and does not just cover legal subjects.  You will be tested on medical, scientific, political, artistic, and many different topics.

The format is simple in concept but the questions are not.  You will be given a few paragraphs to read and then have five questions to answer on that topic.  You are asked to pick the best response to each question.  The correct responses isn’t necessarily the best answer.  That is something that you will have to understand when you are taking the LSAT that some answers are the result of a process of elimination.

The best way to prepare for the exam is to read in subject matters that you find difficult.  You should also take as matter practice exams as possible.  After you take each practice exam, go over the questions that you get wrong and figure out why you got them wrong.  Retake the exam again and see if you can figure out a pattern or type of question that you are getting wrong.

After you have isolated the type of questions that you get wrong, work on those type of questions and improve your test taking skills.

The Writing Portion of LSAT

There is a writing portion of the LSAT that is not scored so is not calculated in your overall score.  However, the writing portion is important because law schools use to access your writing skills.  It’s reviewed by the school personnel at the schools that you submit your application to.

Those schools that do not receive your application do not review written essay.  So this is an important opportunity to impress the law schools that you are going to apply to.

However, you only have thirty five minutes and two pages to put your thoughts down on paper.  That is not a lot of time and space to show off your writing skill, analytic skills, and to show off your reasoning skills.  To make matters worse, you have no idea what the subject matter of the writing portion will be on.
